Feed Pty Ltd
Privacy policy
Last updated 28 July 2026 · Applies to the Feed app and feedapp.com.au
Feed Pty Ltd (ACN 000 000 000) (“Feed”, “we”, “us”) builds and operates Feed, a mobile app for logging and rating restaurants and following friends. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and how you can control it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name or display name, username, email address and password (stored only as a cryptographic hash). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and email address that service returns.
- Profile information — an optional profile photo, bio and home city.
- Content you create — the restaurants you log, your ratings, written notes, photos you upload, lists you build, and who you follow.
- Messages you send us — the contents of support or enquiry emails.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app data — device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, and a randomly generated app instance identifier.
- Usage data — screens viewed, features used, and interactions with content, used to understand how the app is performing.
- Diagnostics — crash reports and performance logs.
- Approximate location derived from your IP address, used for security and to default the app to the right city.
Information you can choose to share
- Precise location — only if you grant location permission, and only to show nearby restaurants and suggest a venue when you log a visit. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings.
- Photos and camera — accessed only when you attach an image to an entry.
- Contacts — if you choose to find friends from your contacts, we process that list to look for matching accounts. You can decline this and still use the app.
- Notifications — if you allow them, we send alerts about friend activity and app updates.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not include it in your notes or profile.
2. Why we use it
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
- To provide the core features of the app: saving your entries, showing your history, generating recommendations and displaying friends' activity.
- To keep the service safe — detecting fraud, spam, abuse and violations of our terms.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To fix bugs, measure performance and improve the product.
- To send you service messages, and — only with your consent — occasional product updates. You can unsubscribe from those at any time.
- To meet our legal obligations.
3. What other people can see
Feed is a social app, so some information is visible to others by design. Your display name, username, profile photo and the entries you post are visible to the people who follow you. If your account is set to public, they may be visible to any Feed user. Entries you mark private are visible only to you. You can change your account visibility, edit or delete individual entries, and remove followers at any time in the app's settings.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for targeted advertising. We disclose it only to:
- Service providers who operate parts of the service on our behalf — cloud hosting and databases, crash reporting and analytics, email delivery, and customer support tooling. They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Mapping and venue data providers, when the app requests restaurant information. These requests do not include your identity.
- Law enforcement, regulators or courts where we are required or authorised by law, or where necessary to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.
- An acquirer, if the business is sold or merges. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Overseas disclosure
Our providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Before disclosing information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. Security
Information is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Access to production systems is restricted and logged. No system is completely secure, but if a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm we will notify affected users and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account information and entries for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records by law. Backups are overwritten on a rolling cycle and are purged within 90 days.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction — you can view and edit most of your information in the app, and you can ask us for a copy of what we hold.
- Deletion — you can delete individual entries, or delete your entire account from Settings in the app. Deleting your account removes your profile and entries.
- Permissions — location, photos, contacts and notifications can each be revoked in your device settings without losing access to the rest of the app.
- Marketing — every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
To make a request, email contact@feedapp.com.au. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Children
Feed is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
10. Third-party links
The app and this site may link to restaurant websites, booking services and map providers. Those services have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
12. Contact and complaints
Questions, requests or complaints go to our privacy officer at contact@feedapp.com.au, or by post to Feed Pty Ltd, Level 1, 123 Example Street, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.
We will acknowledge a complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
